We saw P!nk perform at the Scottrade Center tonight and it was everything we expected and more.
A group called The Kin opened for her.
This is them after the show. The two guys on the left are brothers from Australia and the bald guy on the right is someone they said used to perform in subways in New York. He’s a percussionist who played with his hands.
This group was good but paled in comparison to the main event.
The first song was “Raise Your Glass”. P!nk knows how to make an entrance.
That’s P!nk, being dropped from this globe type thing by a bungee cord. She’s also being launched back into the air.
And while this intense cardio action is taking place, she’s singing. As a runner who doesn’t like to waste breath speaking while running, seeing someone sing while upside down and flying all over the place is just amazing.
Also amazing: her abs.
If that’s not a reason to start doing situps, I don’t know what is.
She did a bunch of songs on the ground and then went back in the air, I want to say for “Try”. Excuse the blurry photos, but you can get the main idea–she’s twisting around in the freaking air while singing.
Then she got back on the ground, put on a dress, and did “Just Give Me a Reason”. (The guy from fun. did his part from the video screen.)
She somehow manages to be a total badass but also sensitive and graceful. She can put on a dress, kick your ass, then sing a song to make you cry about the whole thing.
She covered “Wicked Game” right after this and it was very lovely.
Then she had another costume change, into a bodysuit with boots and a long coat, and sang “Trouble”.
After another song she was back in the air, into the globe thing she first started the show in. But this time she wasn’t attached to any cords. This was her perfomance of “Sober”.
That’s her, hanging off the side of the globe. She’s holding the arms of a guy inside the globe, and that’s all that’s holding her. This was the stunt she got hurt during in Europe and I can see why. They did put padded mats on the ground but I’m sure it would still be pretty painful to be dropped from a spinning globe hanging above the stage.
Then she got back on the ground and did something new for her, playing the piano for a whole song. She said last tour she played guitar for a song; this year she learned to play the piano for one, “The Great Escape”.
She nailed it and said afterward she was nervous and was glad it was over.
She came to the part of the stage that’s in the crowd and did a few acoustic versions of songs.
And someone gave her a Fredbird hat. St. Louis, y’all.
I hope she doesn’t get lice. (As someone who’s had lice, this is all I can think of when I see someone put on someone else’s hat.)
After this more mellow part of the evening, she said she was going to do a song a three year old told her has “mommy words” in it, which ended up being a G rated version of “Fuckin’ Perfect”. She said maybe in 7 or so years she’ll be able to sing the song as written but she has a hard time with it at this stage of her life (she has a three year old). After that song she continued with fast tempo songs (with group dance routines!), including “(Blow Me) One Last Kiss”.
That was the end of the main part of the show. She left the stage briefly and when she returned a series of wires were visible and they were being attached to a donut type thing she was wearing around her waist.
And she’s off!
I was so in shock by what I was witnessing, I’m not sure what song she was performing (yes, she’s singing while flying all over Scottrade), but I’m pretty sure it was “So What”.
She started out flying straight out but then went left and right to land on pedestals in the crowd. And she’s wearing heels. I can’t walk in heels; P!nk flys across arenas and lands on narrow pedestals.
Then things got really fun. She started flying along the sides of the arena, and right over us! These photos capture the crazniess; everything happened so fast and she was literally a blur flying above us. But P!nk was right above us!
The second time she came by she was flipping around.
I’ve never seen anything like that. The only thing close (and it’s not really close at all) is Taylor Swift’s show, where she flew into the crowd while standing on a platform. At the time that seemed crazy but compared to what I saw tonight that was tame.
Then it was over.
I stood for most of the show and I haven’t done that in years. I can’t remember the last time I was so entertained; my mouth was hanging open a lot of the night. P!nk is so inspiring. I’m going to remember this show the next time I’m at the gym. 🙂
